Ladurée Macaron Review

Wow, it's been so long since I double posted but you as my loyal readers you should know that this can only mean one thing, you're in for another hiatus.

Fret not, I guarantee that this post shall be worthy of your time if not you can skim through all these words and just look at the photos. You know in uni this week, I learnt that Facebook and consequently Instagram own all the images that we upload, so they have the power to sell that information to third parties and advertisers, blogger don't follow suit if you if haven't already done so.

Alright so I was in the city today, partially because I had to hand in an assignment for uni but because my lunch at Intercontinental hotel was cancelled by both Mum and I, I decided that I had to treat the both of us to some sweet treats because devouring cakes are strongly reserved for parties (I will get to that).
I'm a sucker for decor and pretty bags, except I was mentally cringing inside when I paid for my macarons, 8 for $29 and in case you were wondering it is actually cheaper to buy like one or two because then you don't have to pay for the packaging. One thing that you have to keep in mind when considering Ladurée's price is that the macarons you buy are put simply, defrosted- they're actually made in Switzerland and then frozen and flown to the various countries that Ladurée operates in before being defrosted and sold in stores so the exorbitant price tag is the consequence of quality control by Ladurée.

It's a pretty box but so expensive...
It's amazing how they crammed so many in, oh the flavours are from the left: Strawberry Marshmallow, Raspberry, Vanilla, Pistachio, Lime Basil, Coffee, Salted Caramel, Coffee and Violet Marshmallow. You know when I got home, I almost had a heart attack because coffee and salted caramel look identical and I was going to have a little cry because I thought the sales assistant misheard me but it's all good, that did not happen. Also heads up if you want salted caramel frozen yoghurt go to YogurtWorld (in Westfield Sydney) only, Wowcow salted caramel is disgusting (try at your own risk).

So sad, some of them died on the way home

THE VERDICT:
Despite being frozen, they taste amazing just the way a macaron should be, gooey, soft centre with very delicate yet crunchy cookie base. Having said that, I myself struggle to compromise with the price, quite frankly, it is expensive. If you are going to try it though and you're unsure of what to get that I strongly recommend salted caramel because it was AMAZING and if you still have registered that then let me repeat,  it was AMAZING.

Also if you've made it this far, let me tell you about a trip that I'm planning. Basically I want to compare   Ladurée macarons with those made fresh in-store at Baroque Bistro patissiere ($2.70) and to give you guys some context, it was where Better got her birthday cake.

Lindt Lindor Review

hello, I wasn't sure I was going to be back so soon but here I am (starts breaking out into the Camp Rock song if you know what I mean). After uni today, I met up with a friend over coffee at Lindt Cafe and as soon as I walked in, I spotted the a 30% off sign for the pick and mix lindor balls. Now I love Lindt so when I saw that sign I couldn't help myself because when you buy the assorted gift boxes in say Coles and Woolworths we're basically limited to Milk chocolate, Dark chocolate, Hazelnut and White chocolate. In a Lindt cafe, you gasp and shudder when you see the $9.99 for 100g price tag but in return you can pick from mint, cookies and cream, coffee, extra dark chocolate the list goes on. So in total I bought $17 worth of Lindor, that's 14 balls, 7 flavours and below are my thoughts. I don't know why but some bloggers took a photo of each ball and of a half eaten ball and my question- why? I'm not particularly fond of seeing something half eaten being snapped, it's like offering your leftovers, anyways I'll stop here.

Raspberry- lovely dark chocolate with a very subtle raspberry taste
Peanut butter- exactly as you would expect, milk chocolate coating with peanut butter centre so if you're a fan of peanut butter let me tell you that chocolate and peanut butter are in matrimony if not I dare you to try my peanut butter choc-chip cookies
Coffee - was just like coffee, enough said and I urge all my coffee lover friends to head to Lindt because their coffee is great as well
Irish Cream- okay I'm loving this one, you could smell the cream before you even put that ball of goodness into your mouth. Well worth a try and perhaps seconds if they weren't $99.90 a kg
Cookies and Cream- I love this flavour in whatever form it takes especially if it involves ice-cream. It was lovely, perfect portions of the cream balanced off with cookie bits and it wasn't overly sweet. I'm kind of itching to go and get more except my next sweet treat will be macarons so I'd better control myself.
Noccionoir- a bit disappointing because it's milk chocolate coating, chocolate centre with a hazelnut didn't seem completely roasted, and if it was then you could taste the age in it
Gianduja- Hazelnut and cocoa centre with dark chocolate coating but I'm not sure why but when I ate it, it has this medical taste to it (strange)

Photo time:
well not the best photo in the world.... and I did not use a filter if anyone was curious, my phone just has a tendency to take photos in this way
 A photo of each flavour
Cookies and Cream!

On another note, I watched a bit of House Rules and I'm so pissed, they stole my/ our song (with V), gosh there's a reason why my blog is titled Life in COLOUR

Vargabar Espresso Review

Greetings all, especially to those who continue to read this blog (I applaud you and sincerely thank you for encouraging me to continue to write) although I must say that I may go on a blogging hiatus soon because I will be drowning amongst assignments soon especially this Law Essay that's worth 50% and is regrettably due the day after my birthday. Fret not guys, because this year I'm celebrating it early 2 weeks in fact, so (just thought I'd ramble about my plans) on 31st I'm off to city with Mum for lunch probably at the Continental followed by Laudree and OMG 1st June will be a night to remember because CN Blue is gracing Sydney with their presence so yeah cannot wait!

Okay back unto the main topic for discussion here, so Youtube Sensation and I had a lunch gathering... mostly with med and law people albeit one should note that my friendship circle does extend beyond that so there you go Average. Alright so we trekked to this quaint hipster cafe in Newtown upon my request and wow decor was interesting like I often find myself mesmerised by the allure of retro vintage inspired places like The Baron in Castle Hill but once I get past the initial impression I find myself so out of place <--- my Area of Study moment.

Photos:
The roast jug on the left kept Average's mind busy

So cool, ^ that's banana smoothie. Does anyone else think of MKR last year when they see this, like the contestants who served a pea soup (?) in a vessel similar to this picture
 COFFEE ART
It took me a while to finally put sugar in it but it was a good cup of coffee
Poached Chicken Breast with spinach, pear chutney, king island brie, avocado, and chilli mayo baguette $13.50
Chicken linguini made with spelt (house rolled) with coffee smoked chilli sauce, roast pumpkin and coriander & parmesan bread $15.90
Angus Beef Burger (grass fed) with tomato, spinach, organic cheese, beetroot, onion jam and coffee smoked chilli sauce served with wedges $16.90

Well I ordered coffee and the burger so they're the only things that I can critique. So coffee is well worth your money and time so do try! Apart from taking photos and strategising about how to go about eating this thing, I tried a wedge. It turned out to be a salt bomb but if you know my palate then you know that I am sensitive to and have a strong aversion to salt so this is just purely my experience of eating it. Needless to say someone else finished it off for me. As for the burger the grass-fed beef patty was definitely better than the ones you get at Grill'd, it was leaner and had way more flavour however I think Grill'd wins in terms of practicality because at least with their burger the bun is not monstrous and it is actually feasible to eat the whole thing as a burger rather than deconstructed. All in all I am a fan of their burger, that sauce and onion combo <3 but I feel very uncomfortable and awkward whenever I'm forced to deconstruct a burger.
