The Night for Online Shopping

The night is nigh and perhaps may be very very long

VOSN is here or take it as Vogue Online Shopping Night has come again. It is the night where there is one thing on the mind of many eponymous Australian retailers and labels and that is SALE SALE SALE. If there is one thing that excites a seasoned online fashion buyer, that is the chance to have it all at your fingertips, for me personally I love the range that you have access to, the convenience of not leaving your house and being able to browse through several stores at the same time. Of course, the tradeoff is that you loose the opportunity to try before you buy and quite often, shipping costs can hurt especially if you're getting something in from overseas.

Some of my notable picks or which site you should go to based on my personal preference are:

fsnhbnkr pronounced fashion bunker, they quite often do great deals on Cameo, Finders Keepers and Keepsake as well as other Australian labels. I am particularly impressed with Cameo's collection at the moment and they have just restocked some of this season's sold out items so be sure to browse their site.
She's Electric- loving the pastels and the graffiti since I'm also loving words at the moment

The Iconic- also offering 25% off all full priced items.

NOTE: none of these photos belong to me they are all taken from Vogue.com.au and credits belong with the respective companies

Tea + Review

I have long heard of this place opening up at Burwood but since I've taken a bit of a break from my weekend job at Burwood, I've found it hard to come up with an excuse to come to Burwood because otherwise it would be a bit out of the way given all the uni work that I have to conquer. Fortunately during Easter, I had a reason to come to this suburb again and the food scene is looking as healthy as ever (click here for my review of The Choc Pot). If I were to be frank, I came because I thought their signature plant milk tea was super cool and I wanted to try it but now that I've tried it, I want to try their other drinks. I'm a bit of a drink junkie especially back in high school where I used to buy lots of Easyway and Chatime, Gloria Jeans, etc. but since then I've cut back on drinks to a bare minimum because the price all adds up. But as my loyal readers of my food adventures would know, I'm not one to shy away from a good drink and after abstaining from milk teas for so long I'm ready to put Tea + on my exception list for milk teas. I really liked their old school menu, I absolutely love scrapbooking, it has this homely feel and kind of adds this feeling of ease because it is such a casual setting (in a good way of course).

Guys you should note that there is minimal seating available, they do do reservations or a wait list so be prepared to wait a little bit because I swear all Asians in town know of this place so whilst it may be situated just off from the main road, it is not that obscure.
Cutest tissue box to date

Signature drink!!!!
Original Plant Milk Tea $5.80
I love the little addition of mint in the middle, and yes while it doesn't really add anything taste wise, it certainly does lift the presentation of this drink. However it just got me thinking as to how many bunches of mint they buy just so they can pick the very middle leaves to put that into their drink (yeah I'm weird like that).

Onto the taste... the top 'dirt' layer is actual crumbed oreo biscuits (creative I know), at first I thought it would be really weird, you know eating it together with the milk tea but it wasn't that bad. There are cutlery on the side so you can just have those oreo crumbs on their own if you want. My advice try not to eat the oreo together with the special seasalt creamer foam, or at least it tasted strange to me. They keep their scrapbook style menus on the side and there is a page dedicated to Do's and Don'ts on how to drink this, so be brave and just slurp it up because you'll appreciate it more that way. All-in-all, well worth the trip and a must try drink.
Yeah the mug is huge and finishing it is a challenge in itself.

Taiwanese Style Egg Pancake- Mushroom and Cheese $6.50
Originally I only wanted the drink but then how could I pass up on an opportunity to try food that I rarely get to eat. So being Chinese, there are of course not many dishes that I have yet to try so when I saw the egg pancake I became curious and obvious that's what led me to buying it because it isn't an omelette (that's too boring) but rather a pancake. Yes it was eggy, as it should be, but as you can tell it was more so at the ends, other than that it did retain the egg taste but I was surprised that it was quite subtle. The cheese combo didn't taste that bad, I was thinking that I may regret choosing that but I thought it was alright but for me the highlight would be my admiration for the cook's talents. How he/she managed to get the texture of Asian pancakes/rotti baffles me and I am super keen to know how so I can attempt it at home.

On a final note, so even though I literally just went to this place (I fast-tracked this post), I am dying to go back so who wants to come with? I really cannot describe my love affair with food, even my friends are using it against me so we can go eat out during our uni-breaks at the expense of studying on campus.

(Btw located in Burwood not Concord, just off corner where Bank of Sydney is)

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken Review

As a Sydney-sider I feel that there a million things that Melbourne has that Sydney doesn't but with the recent opening of Hot Star, there is one less thing that Melbourne boasts that Sydney doesn't. If the rapid onset of bloggers rushing to get a piece of chicken is anything to go by, it has surely become the new Talk of the Town. I think that we should all remember that not all street food is good but let me tell you that this stuff is divine.

Situated just moments away from World Square, Hot Star can be spotted from away for its light blue signage and a crowd of people outside. Note, there is no seating available but the takeaway packaging is hands friendly.

Fried Chicken bigger than my face, it looks small in the picture but that is simply because it is folded slightly and I was eating on the go with no plate so unfortunately it wasn't feasible for me to take it out of its packaging for you to admire it in all its glory.

As you can probably tell from the above picture, I was suffering from a case of lipstick problems but who cares when you have tender f**king fried chicken in front of you- because really that is all that matters. I think that when you hear the word 'fried', oil should be one of your next thoughts, yet for some reason you don't really get that overwhelming oil taste even after several bites and that is what is so good about this. That said, that is not to say that you won't get that feeling eventually, perhaps it varies between each person but by the time I reached the bones, a few bites away from devouring it all, I stopped. I guess it was partially because I was eating it in public which attaches with a certain level of common decency; especially when it may be a tad unsightly to see someone eating the meat near the bone (I don't know about you guys but that has got to be one of my favourite parts though also when I don't look my best....)

All in all, I thoroughly recommend this joint and it is a great midnight snack (literally). Don't forget that they also do chicken bites and curly fries (I haven't had these in ages) as well as combo deals.

Monochrome Madness

UPDATE: MY FACEBOOK PAGE IS UP AND RUNNING
so don't forget to like and you guys are welcome to contact via Facebook if you want my recommendations for any restaurants, etc.

Hopping on the flat lay band wagon, notable mention goes to the BB creme in this picture which isn't all that clear but the white tube is my beloved Dior Snow BB creme.

Top: Vintage Yves Saint Laurent
Blazer: Bought off taobao.com, like the China version of Ebay
Pants: Cameo Poison Tree pants (one of my favourites)
Shoes: ASOS Porter heels
Lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo
Accessories: my iPhone with a NOT Chanel perfume bottle case (read more here)

I absolutely adore black and white, they would have to be my favourite colours (even though they both technically are not colours) and I love them even more when I wear them together. I guess when you have as much black and white as I do, it is really hard to find the next black or white piece that really excites you which is why these day I'm jumping up and down whenever I see something that is a combination of black and white. I particularly love the blazer that I'm wearing here, I found it on Taobao and I really could not resist buying it (note you do need to be familiar with Chinese, to an extent, to use this site), it was after all consolidation for me for not being able to buy the elusive Kelly Wearstler Horizon Coat, which till this day, I am still looking for (let me know if anyone knows anyone that is willing to sell it to me). So my advice guys when you are in love with a particular colour or black&white like me go all out, I promise you that you will love it even more.

Also guys, I've personalised most of my header so click the '+' button at the top to help you navigate around my blog (a few links are there yet but will be soon). I'm creating a Facebook page either tomorrow or the next day or so, so check back for the link/update and I would really appreciate it if you could show your support by liking it. Don't forget to also follow me on instagram http://instagram.com/thegourmetcouture for photos of my day to day life in general and random photos or moments that belong exclusively to instagram.

Finally, thanks for reading and hope you like this post as much as I do!

Belljar Coffee Review

Away from the traffic of King St and Enmore Road, you might be surprised that a quaint little cafe is nestled amongst the foliage of Alice St (mind you Alice St is not your ordinary suburban street, it is too long to be classified as a 'street' in my opinion but that is a debate for another day). I don't know why but when I went to the Belljar Coffee, I was reminded of the days of milk bars- even though I never really lived through that era myself, but there is something appealing about granny knits, wallpapers and anything that exudes 'home'.

 Iced coffee $4
I was so shocked when I saw this because what is featured in this photo is a brick wallpaper, yeah pretty amazing.

 Banana mango passionfruit smoothie $6
A very different smoothie from what I'm used to, first of all it came with a paper straw- my first experience of paper straws came at Circa at Parramatta read it here. Unfortunately, the paper straw was a bad idea, because a smoothie is quite thick, the straw did soften easily and that made it harder to drink when you have a defunct straw. I'm also assuming that they used yoghurt to make this, maybe Greek because there was definitely that sour taste coming through which was interesting but I did feel that it masked the flavours of the fruits. As a suggestion for those that make smoothies at home, stick to a staple scoop of ice-cream or the sweeter varieties of yoghurt.

Salmon Plate- Smoked Salmon, Avocado, Ricotta, Lemon, Dill & Rocket served with Toast $14.50

The food was, in my opinion average, it wasn't bad but also wasn't a wow factor or something on the menu that particularly excited me either. I quite enjoyed the ricotta that came with it, I did expect the clumpy ricotta but what I got instead was very pleasant to eat and incredibly light.

Belljar Stack- Scrambled eggs served with bacon, grilled tomato and mushrooms $17

Fashion Collaboration Alert: Mary Katrantzou and Adidas

When news first broke, it was the talk of the town and it was all over fashion magazines's websites within days which was really a testament to the adoration and respect that Mary Katrantzou has within the fashion industry. Following in the footsteps of Stella McCartney and other notable collaborations, I am sure that I, like many are super excited for the fruits of this collaboration. The shoes, that are due to come out in November this year are the top of my Christmas wish list and I am even starting up a (figurative) piggy bank in preparation to ensure that I won't be caught out when these shoes get released. Of course no one know what the shoes will look like but if her latest collection and her eponymous digital prints are anything to go by, the attention is well deserved. If it's you're first time hearing of her then check out my blog post here, you will love it!

Shirley Song

About Me

Hi my name is Shirley Song, I also go by the name Bitter- my blogging name so you can call me either of the two. If you're curious as to why I'm called Bitter, I guess it's because I'm quite cynical, realistic and also because I share a blog with one of my best friends so we decided to call ourselves Bitter and Sweet respectively making the two of us bittersweet (pretty lame right). I'm a uni student studying Commerce and Law at USYD, with a penchant for fashion particular high-end bags and Ralph Lauren (I have yet to meet anyone with more Ralph Lauren than me). I, like pretty much everyone else my age, procrastinate an awful lot whether that be looking at places to eat, clothes or bags that I can't quite call my own or watching Asian dramas like a hopeless romantic. As you can tell from my blog title, I unashamedly love food, the more exotic the better! I must profess that I am by no means a food critic, just a individual that likes to eat and say something here and there.

So thank you for taking the time to come and visit my blog, feel free to leave a comment, feedback and or questions as I would love to hear from my readers.

Photos taken using Canon EOS 600D 15-55mm or my iPhone 5S when I'm too lazy to bring my dslr
NB Aspiring to improve my photography skills, I am by no means an expert but I do appreciate the quality and the stylist touches that you get from using DSLRs

Local Matters: Parramatta

UPDATE 3: Opening is now rescheduled to 5PM (I'm not the one changing these details so don't blame me for this)

UPDATE 2: GELATO MESSINA IS OPENING ON FRIDAY JUNE 6 @ 12PM

Taken from Messina's website

"When the red ribbon rips at 12pm on the 6th of June, Messina will set the scene for the start of their beautiful relationship with the west by dropping in a rather unique gelato special - ‘East meet West’.  Starting with a base of house strained labneh and pistachio gelato, and finished with the sweet touch of fig and date jam. The flavour is an ode to both the multicultural cross section that is Parramatta and our way of saying ‘Hi’ to our friends out West - from East with love. "

Thank you Messina for opening this Friday because were it any other day, I would really have to think hard about whether I should be going out or at home studying like a mad woman for my final uni exams for the semester. I love the fact that I always have Fridays off uni because that means I actually have the option to go out. For those curious, I will be here for the opening, as in THE OPENING so if you see me about say hi, I would love to meet my readers!

Here are some photos taken yesterday when I was at work, and since they started and finished the signage yesterday, I was so surprised today to hear that they would be opening so soon.

UPDATE 1: MONDAY 12 MAY 2014 FREE PORK ROLLS

Hi Guys, this isn't really a food review more like a update for those who live near Parramatta or frequent Parramatta. After continuously walking past a newspaper embellished Wowcow that shut down recently, I've always been curious as to whom that corner position would be vacated for and I am happy to announce that Gelato Messina is moving in. For those who need a job well just click on the photo below for details as they are looking to hire and for the rest of us, let's be patient as we herald in the addition of a big player to Parramatta's food scene. I myself am really excited particularly because Parramatta doesn't really have a gelato store like yes there is Cold Rock, New Zealand natural, etc. but really ice-cream pales in comparison to the flavours that you can get into gelato. Another plus is that I can actually buy a Messina cake without fearing that it would melt during the trip home from the city, of course if you want the monoporzione (click here) you can only buy them in their Creative Department store in Darlinghurst. Click here for my review of one of their monoporzione and here for my first cake from Messina- the famed black forrest cake that was featured on MasterChef and yes I do think I was ahead of the times because that post was written back in 2012 which was before Messina's widespread fame began.

Now that I'm revisiting my old posts, it is quite amazing and slightly embarrassing seeing how I use to post. And to old and new readers thank you for your continuous support, I started this blog as really a hobby and it still is but hopefully I can share my thoughts and experiences with more and more people. You guys will always still be the first to see anything, I always prioritise putting photos up on the blog over any other form of social media but I am thinking of starting up a Facebook page soon so please show your support by liking, I would really appreciate that and don't forget to follow my instagram http://instagram.com/thegourmetcouture.

I saw this massive sign and I couldn't help but share it with you guys. Free Pork Roll at Benjamin's Bakery which is limited to one per person and only on a certain day. When I do find out what day it is I will be sure to let you guys know but if you're around town, walk by to see if this poster has been updated.

WTF: PVC

"What the Frock is that"

Not sure what the feedback will be like for these types of posts but do you get that feeling that sometimes you just want to say "what the frock is that" - if so then let me introduce my WTF tag (please note that this has nothing to do the typical meaning of WTF, I just thought it would be a good to use those three letters in an alternate meaning).

I guess what made me want to write this post was some of the fashion that I see around uni, I won't name names nor shall I shame those who I find guilty of killing my eyes. In between my 9a.m starts and late night finishes, I can't help but say that I agree that dressing comfortably should be your number 1 priority at uni because after all you are technically there to land a degree and a job thereafter, but there are those who like to dress nicely however even the word 'nicely' can be construed altogether when you are met with the horrid sight of these shoes (as per below):

First of all, who ever started this following of people who deem it as fashionable to where PVC sandals at the ripe old age of 18-25. No no no, these belong strictly on the feet of tiny tots where it is actually socially appropriate. The clear PVC, quite frankly makes me shiver to see other's feet because they are exposed in the sense that there is no detail around to disguise what more often than not, are ugly feet (sorry for being blunt). Another thing that irks me is the socks that are usually worn.

Moving onto the PVC bag, which is a love-hate of mine. For editorial pictures and such, I think these bags are pretty nice provided that what is inside is neat and simple. But honestly, on a practical note, when you see people toting these around they are mostly cluttered and I don't really want to know what is inside your handbag because it look like a mess. That said, for clutches with minimal and yes very minimal items like lipstick, phone and some accessories, then that can be very chic but translating that into an everyday sense doesn't seem likely in my books.

For everything that one hates, there is always and exception and for me and perhaps many others that would be Chanel's perfume bottle bag; a rendition of their famed no.5 perfume. Unfortunately, for the average person we can only covet such a bag because they cost $9 500 (assuming US). But one can always dream and go on the internet to sigh and watch from afar as you see socialites and celebs bags like this.
Image from Chanel

Image out of Vogue

For those who cannot afford such a bag but do want something similar then there are these iPhone cases going around. I actually own the black case though when I asked my dad to buy from China, I specifically asked for the clear version. Evidentially, either he did not listen to me or it sold out, I believe the sold out scenario to be true. For those interested in buying one of their own you can get it on Etsy or Ebay for approx $30 US by simply typing in 'perfume bottle phone case', and for me personally, I would say that only those with an iPhone should consider getting this case because, not to discriminate against non-iphone users but it looks aesthetic better because an iPhone is more slender as opposed to your Galaxy S phones or Notes.

If you think forking out $30 on an iPhone case is outrageous (which I do) then I bought mine off Taobao which is one of my favourite online shopping platforms because I like to mix high end with low end and Taobao provides me with super cheap goodies. So on Taobao you can this case for approx 24 RMB (it varies) which is around $3-4 US however if you do not live in China then shipping is going to be your worst nightmare- don't even consider couriers because they will scam you of your hard earned monies. The best alternative is if you know someone who is going to China or someone who lives in China and is visiting because then you can ask them for a favour.
Links to buy are: herehere  (Taobao sites) or here and here for Etsy and Ebay respectively.

Let me know if you enjoyed my opinionated half-rant about PVC items, of course you are welcome to have your own opinion so yeah let me know of your thoughts and if want more WTFs.

Blackflower Patisserie Review

Truly a feast for the eyes
Tiramisu, approx $7
I guess what drew me to this was the mushroom on the top followed by the fungus bed, it was served in this black, plastic container so you really need a long spoon to get all the layers of the tiramisu. The green grass/fungus/whatever you want it to be, was actually made out of green tea which I though was quite cute. That said, from a taste perspective it did make your first few bites really bitter and it was only until you got into the cream that you started to get away from the bitterness of the green tea powder. I guess that goes with what I was saying in how practically it wasn't the smartest idea to have such a tall container. I don't mean to sound overtly criterial either, but for me, I didn't really enjoy the green tea with the rest of the tiramisu which didn't really seem too much like a tiramisu either because there wasn't that coffee or kahlua hit that I was expecting.

Cheeseburger Macaron approx $3
I guess by now, if you are reading this, you are probably sick of people talking about macarons (reminds me of this article I read on good food.com.au about the most overrated foods as of late). Mind you I love them but I haven't had them in a long time and you should know that this is a severely long overdue blog post, think December last year so excuse my poor memory for being unsure of the exact prices. I really only tried this macaron for the novelty factor because it isn't everyday that you find a macaron that looks like a cheeseburger. Mind you, it tastes nothing like one and for $3 you are really only buying for the looks, I found the flavour lacking partially because when I was eating I didn't really no what I was meant to get out of it and I guess by extension from what I tried, that can be said of Blackflower as a whole. I think it really only lives up aesthetically but I am happy to be proven wrong.

Est. Review

est.

Letting the pictures do all the talking, spoiler alert dinner was absolutely amazing, treated myself and my dad to Peter Doyle's ethereal and decadent 7-course tasting menu. A night full of great, attentive service, great atmosphere, ambience and of course the food is to die for. The following morning, I had a mini withdrawal symptoms because once I had food at est. what I ate for the remainder of that day could not compare to what I ate the previous night.

A photo of me for good measure because my face rarely pops up unless I'm writing about fashion.

 Tasting Menu

goats curd panna cotta, black fig, jamon, red witlof

By just looking at it you can tell that it is incredibly delicate. It was my first time hearing of a savoury based panna cotta especially when it is made out of goats curd as opposed to cream for your regular panna cotta desserts but no, I really enjoyed it. It still retained the silky smoothness that you would expect out of a panna cotta but instead of sweet you get the tanginess of the goats curd together with the saltiness of the jamon (Spanish dry-cured ham). To finish it off there's the sweetness of the black fig and the , because the jamon can be quite salty, and red witlof that adds to the red colour palette whilst simultaneously providing another textural component. All-in-all a great way to start a meal that left me excited about the rest of the meal.
NB: You'll also find that progressively throughout the night the lighting was working against me because it was getting dark and if you've eaten out for dinner before then you can probably relate to me when I say that some places are not very lit or at least lighting is poor when it comes to taking photos. And that brings me to my next point, I've already invested in a tripod for my DSLR but should I also buy one of those light attachments so I can take much better photos at night.

calamari, squid ink noodles, asparagus, ocean trout roe, lemon (served with zucchini flowers on the day)

This was one of my favourites because I love my seafood. It's a bit hard to tell from these photos but the white strands in the photo are actually calamari which were cut so that they looked strikingly similar to rice noodles. I hope this was deliberate (I'm going to give Est. the benefit of the doubt and assume so), because if you analyse it (which you can opt not to do) it's kind of a like a mind trick in that you bite into it expecting rice noodles so to say but in actuality you are eating deliciously tender calamari which has been infused with all the flavours of the accompanying sauce. I also loved the squid ink noodles and yes you can actually taste the difference between these noodles and ordinary noodles because this has this unique taste to it. I have long heard of squid ink noodles and saw them last at Salt Meat Cheese but chose not to buy them and suffice to say I regret that decision because I'm currently craving these noodles. They were of the same width as the calamari, credit to everyone in the kitchen for their professionalism in cutting the calamari with such precision. In keeping with the seafood theme there were also generous amounts of ocean trout roe and then zucchini flowers as your vegetable and other colour component.

scampi, white soy, steamed eggplant, cucumber, wakame, coriander cress

This annulet style scampi was presented so well, the flowers on top made it so delicate (I love flowers in food) looking. It was just simply one of those dishes where you just struggle to even begin eating it because you know that you will ruin the presentation as soon as you place your fork anywhere near it. But at the same time, it is so inviting that you cannot help but to taste it knowing full well what the end result will be i.e. an empty plate. I found the Asian flavours to be so appropriate, I firmly believe that Asian style cuisines for seafood are the best, there are really no comparisons. I'm not really sure here if the right term is broth or consommé because the two are after all two different culinary terms (I should really record this for next time) but it had great flavour, lovely addition of wakame or seaweed, crunch of the coriander crew (herbs work well with anything and coriander is so appropriate for an Asian inspired seafood dish). The scampi, the star of the dish was so plump, tender and most of all juicy as it should be. I really enjoyed the cucumbers, they were very refreshing and the fact that they carved the cucumber into spheres and presented them like that was very adorable and of course visual appealing.

murray cod fillet, shaved abalone, snow peas, black fungi, ginger-green shallot vinaigrette

SIGNATURE DISH ALERT
It is Peter Doyle's signature dish and that title is so befitting because it was by far the highlight of the night. This is a must order dish when you dine at Est., the murray cod fillet was cooked perfectly, just simply melt in your mouth. Like the above dish, this one is also Asian inspired with the ginger-green shallot vinaigrette and the Asian greens. I don't know why but I feel lost for words as to how to describe this so I'm just going to leave it to you guys to fill in the blanks.

rib eye of lamb, cumin seed spinach, green peas tahini, chick pea shoots, lemon

Last main and the fifth course was an 'or' option, my dad chose this one but I did have a piece of his lamb which was so tender. I really enjoyed the interplay of the Middle Eastern flavours with the chick pea shoot that is hidden underneath the lamb in the photo and the tahini.

OR

cocoa crusted venison saddle, beetroot, caramelized witlof, pickled blueberries, red leaves

I, on the other hand wanted something a bit different so I opted for the venison instead. Venison is basically deer meat, and it is much tougher than lamb so that's why I needed a sturdier knife. I think that this dish may divide a few tastebuds mainly because the flavours were very intense and were ones that you often don't come across at your ordinary restaurant or cafe. An example of this is the pickled blueberries and the cocoa crusted venison and jus. I found eating this to be such a rewarding experience because I love trying new things (I am really open to eating exotic food) and since I have never cooked venison at home, I didn't know what to expect and even if I did attempt to this meat at home I dare not say that I could ever give the meat the justice it deserves. Onto the food, the venison at first had a bitterness to it from the the cocoa coating so that made the skin a lot browner than were there no cocoa. I found the beetroot great in balancing the competing flavours with the venison, the pickled blueberries and particularly the jus.

It's hard to imagine that you would have room for two desserts after those 5 dishes but because the meals were spaced out well, yes, you do feel full but not the unpleasant bloated full and so it was easily possible to have room for dessert.

pink grapefruit sorbet, raspberries, plum, gin, lime

After such a heavy main full of red meat, the next course was a citrus based dessert which we were told would be very refreshing. It certainly was, I was so glad that they chose this because had they chosen a creamy or rich chocolate dessert I couldn't say that I could properly enjoy dessert. I don't think I have had a dessert more refreshing than this; the grapefruit sorbet was everything a sorbet should be- it was extremely light, smooth and best of all sour. The raspberries and other fruits were all sour as well but that was good because whilst each component was acidic it never tipped the scale for being too sour, similar to how you can have a sweet dessert where every component is sweet.

goats curd cheesecake, poached rhubarb, hibiscus, olive oil crumb

I chose the cheesecake because I was told that you can hardly taste the goats curd in this cheesecake. They were right, the cheesecake was so beautiful and smooth. I think that it was much easier to follow the menu and match up the ingredients to the pictures I took for the mains but the challenge proved much harder for the desserts. I don't want to lead anyone astray so I can only make assertions from here on but I'm going to assume that the ice-cream is hibiscus flavoured but nonetheless the ice-cream was my favourite part. I love ice-cream made from scratch because the flavour and creaminess is just on another altogether, yeah it was just that divine and together with the olive oil crumble I was in heaven.

warm valrhona manajari chocolate tart, toasted cashew ice cream, caramelised milk

Dad chose this one, not me so I can say much but he did enjoy the richness of the chocolate tart (?) and the taste of cashew in the ice-cream.

to finish coffee, tea, tisanes and mignardises (petit fours)

Photo of me the morning after with the take home Est tasting menu, and a wonderful souvenir. Thank you to the Est. team for being so lovely and I can't wait to come back!
